GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS |
POND EXCAVATION The pond should be excavated with plant shelves depths in mind and stepped down to the desired deepest point. The excavated dirt should be compacted behind and around the waterfall filter also along the desired watercourse dirt side walls. After complete excavation, lay and contour the felt liner to the excavated pond, then lay the rubber liner. SKIMMER TO LINER INSTALLATION Dig a hole for the skimmer 19" deep for the SRM skimmer or 29" deep for the LRM skimmer. Place the skimmer along the pond edge and opposite the waterfall for the best circulation. The water level in the skimmer should be set 1" from the top of the skimmer. Attach the bulkhead fitting to the skimmer with the rubber gasket on the inside of the skimmer and the hard gasket and nut on the outside (don't over-tighten as you can break the bulkhead). Before screwing the PVC two inch male adapter into the bulkhead, add silicone to the fitting threads, and then glue the PVC hose to the fitting. With the skimmer in the excavated hole and at the desired level, place one foot in the skimmer while compacting dirt around the skimmer. Do not attach the felt to the skimmer. Remove all bolts, washers, nuts, plates. Place the rubber liner up the face of the skimmer, with slack in front of the skimmer so the liner will not pull away. From inside the skimmer, take a nail and poke a hole through the bolt hole and rubber liner, then insert a bolt. After all bolts are in place, carefully cut away the rubber liner in the skimmer face opening. Slightly pull the rubber liner away from the skimmer bolts and squeeze silicone between the liner and the face of the skimmer. Add plates, washers and tighten all lock nuts. WATERFALL LINER INSTALLATION Add the rubber liner to the waterfall filter in the same attachment manner as the skimmer. WATERFALL FILTER ROCK WORK With the rubber liner attached to the waterfall filter, now create the waterfall. Start with two or three larger boulders to frame in the waterfall. Set one rock on each side of the falls, and then you can easily set smaller rocks between the framing boulders up to the waterfall ledge of the filter. A flat spill stone can be set against the front ledge of the filter and then foamed in place. Random sizes of rock incorporated throughout the water feature will help to create a more natural look. POND ROCK WORK Stack 6" to 18" size rock for side walls starting at the bottom level of the pond and continue until all vertical sidewalls are complete. Cover all horizontal liner with ¾" to 1-1/2" size gravel. For the Aerated Bottom Zone Filter application, on the bottom of the pond, cover the grid with a thin layer of 2"size gravel. PUMP INSTALLATION FRS- Submersible Pump is installed in the skimmer and pumps pond water to the Waterfall Filter. DRAINAGE UNDER THE POND LINER The build up of water pressure under the pond liner can cause big problems. Drain away surface water from the pond. Before the installation of the liner, and if the soil under the liner is impervious, simply dig a small ditch off to the side of the pond and use perforated drain pipe covered with gravel. The drain line will carry unwanted water under the liner away from the pond to a lower portion of the property. If there is no lower property to drain the water to, then end the drain pipe into a small and secured vertical sump chamber. A submersible pump can, when needed, pump away the build up of ground water, relieving pressure under the liner. |
